The 2018 Long Beach Golf Festival came to a successful conclusion on Sunday, July 29, when Jered Stone of Corral de Tierra overcame a shaky start to the final round before righting the ship with birdies on holes 7 and 10 and a final birdie on 18 to win by 3 shots. Long Beach State’s Joe Fryer added to a very impressive summer where he won the SCGA Amateur and SCGA Match Play Championships, by taking Low Amateur honors at 13-under par to win that flight by five shots over two-time defending Low Am Torey Edwards. Upon conclusion of the Open, charitable donations were made to local charities; Long Beach Partners of Parks received $3,000, and the Long Beach State 49er Women’s Golf Team received $1,500. The 49er Women’s Team again coordinated providing Live Scoring for the event. Finally, two new members were inducted into the Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame, PGA Tour winner Patrick Cantlay and long-time volunteer Philip Barlow.
