2013 Long Beach Golf Festival Recap

The 2013 Long Beach Golf Festival concluded on July 28th, when professional Berry Henson waltzed to a relatively stress free 3-shot victory over Lakewood native Brett Lederer at El Dorado Park GC claim the 2013 Long Beach Open and the $30,000 first place prize.
Henson finished 19 shots under par for three rounds at El Dorado and one round at Sklyinks.

The low Amateur in this year's Long Beach Open, was Pete Fernandez, Jr, who also won this year's Men's City Championship and was the Medalist in the 36-hole qualifying for the Long Beach Match Play Championship also played at El Dorado this year. Pete will receive an exemption for next year's Long Beach Open tournament if he is still an amateur at that time.

Well over 1,000 participants played approximately 3,000 rounds of golf in this year's Golf Festival, which "provides quality, competitive playing opportunities to all segments of the golfing population".

The Long Beach Open and American Golf Foundation also continue to make donations to local charities through the Long Beach Open Pro Am, which was again sponsored this year by Wells Fargo Advisors. This year's charity recipients were the Assistance League of Long Beach, the Long Beach State Golf Teams, and Partners of Parks, the main non-profit entity that supports the City of Long Beach parks system.

Cyna Marie Rodriguez, from the Philippines, won the 2013 Long Beach Women's City Championship by 3 shots   Jordan Guillen of Placentia defeated Huntington Beach's Jacob Schulze 2 and 1 in a long 35-hole final of the 2013 Long Beach Men's City Match Play Championship.   UCI Senior to be Pete Fernandez, Jr. of Bakersfield won the Long Beach Men's City Championship and was the Low Amateur in the 2013 Long Beach Open. Pete also was the Medalist in this year's Men's Match Play Championship and is a former winner of the Crosby Memorial Junior Tournament.

Reinstated amateur Jon Levitt from Covina carded a 3-under par 69 in the final round at Rec Park GC to win the 2013 Long Beach Senior Championship by 2 shots over two other players.

2013 Long Beach Open Winner Berry Henson donated $500 to each of the official charities of the Long Beach Open: The Assistance League of Long Beach, the Long Beach State Golf Teams and Partners of Parks.

 

  Local favorite Brett Lederer was the runner up in the 2013 Long Beach Open with a score of 15-under 273.    The Long Beach State Women's Golf Coach Joey Cerulle accepts a $1,500 donation from Long Beach Golf Superintendent Bob Livingstone
