2018 Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

The Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame, created in 1996 to recognize those individuals who “left their mark on Golf in Long Beach”, will be welcoming two new members in 2018, according to Superintendent of Golf Operations Bob Livingstone. The 2018 inductees are Patrick Cantlay and Phil Barlow.

Cantlay 3 swing sm   Patrick Cantlay – Patrick was born in Long Beach and won the Southern Section and California State CIF titles while at Servite High School. During his one year at UCLA, he was the PAC 12 and national Phil Mickelson Freshman of the Year winner as well as the Jack Nicklaus and Fred Haskins Player of the Year Award winner. He was the number #1 ranked player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings for 53 weeks (a still unmatched stretch). In the summer of 2011, he was the Low Amateur in the United States Open, was a member of the victorious Walker Cup Team, shot a 60 in the PGA Tour’s Greater Hartford Open and won the Southern California Amateur Championship. After a few years away from the game for health and personal reasons he rejoined the PGA Tour in 2016 and recorded his first PGA Tour win in the Shriners Hospital Open in Las Vegas in 2017.

Barlow sm   Philip Barlow – Philip Barlow has been a member of the Skylinks Men’s Club for over 30 years, and has served on the Club’s Board of Directors for over 20 years, including two terms as President. He has served in virtually all positions important to the continued operation of the Club. Philip was chosen by the Skylinks Men’s Club to serve on the Long Beach Municipal Golf Commission in 2010 during a period of transition for the Commission, and while never formally appointed by the Mayor, he attended every meeting for two years. When the Parks, Recreation and Marine Golf Advisory Committee was created by the City Council in 2013, Philip was appointed to the group and unanimously chosen as the first Chairman of the Committee. Philip has volunteered over 200 full days of service for every one of the 13 Long Beach Golf Festival events except the Men’s Senior Championship, in which he competes.

As always, the Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will follow the conclusion of the $165,000 Long Beach Open professional golf tournament at El Dorado Park GC on Sunday, July 29th, 2018, at approximately 2:30 p.m.
