LBO_2010_main_pic_400x200

Oregonian Vince Johnson fired a final round 4-under par 68 to pass a faltering Daniel Wax and capture the $160,000 Long Beach Open at El Dorado Park GC on August 1st

In front of a crowd of over 250 spectators, Johnson patiently played along through the final round, and when Wax double bogeyed the relatively easy par-4 14th hole from a fairway bunker, Johnson took the lead and never looked back. Johnson graduated from Oregon State in 2008, and has been playing professionally ever since.  This was his first major professional victory.

Three charities benefited from the Long Beach Open Pro Am and donations from the American Golf Foundation.  The Assistance League of Long Beach received $5,000, the Long Beach State golf teams received $2,500 and Partners of Parks received $1,000.

As has become custom, the 2010 Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame class was honored with induction at the conclusion of the Open.  This year’s class included legendary southern California golfer Ted Richards, who passed away in 2009, Lakewood phenom and former US Junior Amateur Champion James Oh, who was playing in a tournament and could not attend, and former Skylinks Head Pro and current Long Beach Golf Festival Director Bob Chaffee, who was able to acknowledge his honor during his other duties at the conclusion of the Open.
