2011 Golf Festival Recap

LBGF_1_lrgThe 2011 Long Beach Golf Festival concluded on July 31st , when long time professional Eric Meichtry birdied the final two holes at El Dorado Park GC to move out of a logjam of professionals to claim the 2011 Long Beach Open and the $29,000 first place prize.

Meichtry finished 18 shots under par for three rounds at El Dorado and one round at Sklyinks.

The low Amateur in this year’s Long Beach Open, was incoming Long Beach State freshman Xander Schaufelle, the reigning California CIF Champion, who finished in the top 10 in the professional field at 13 under par, and will receive an exemption for next year’s Long Beach Open tournament.

Well over 1,000 participants played approximately 3,000 rounds of golf in this year’s Golf Festival, which “provides quality, competitive playing opportunities to all segments of the golfing population”.

The Long Beach Open and American Golf Foundation also continue to make donations to local charities including this year’s recipients, the Assistance League of Long Beach, the Long Beach State Golf Teams, and Partners of Parks, the main non-profit entity that supports the City of Long Beach parks system.
