Mallinger comes close at Humana Challenge

Mally-Humana-1 400x200pxLong Beach resident and LB Golf Hall of Fame member John Mallinger came close to his first PGA Tour victory on January 22, 2012 at the Humana Challenge.

Entering the final round of what used to be the Bob Hope Desert Classic five strokes off the lead and tied for 6th place, John Mallinger chipped in for eagle on the par 5-sixth hole at the Arnold Palmer Course at PGA West on Sunday to move into a tie for the lead. He led or shared the lead for the next 11 holes. Despite a final round 66, Mallinger was unable to make any birdies on the final 4 holes of his round, and finished in a 3-way tie for second, two strokes behind champion Mark Wilson.
