Zellmer Wins Another One

Zellmer1 400x200Derek Zellmer, a two-time winner of the Long Beach Men's City Stroke Play Championship, added another Long Beach Crownwhen he defeated Laguna Hills' Rick Taniguchi 5 and 4 in the 2012 Long Beach City Match Play Championship at Rec Park.

 

After shooting 64-69 in the qualifiying rounds, Zellmer was co-medalist with former Long Beach State player Robert Benson, and won the Medal in a playoff. Taniguchi was the 3rd place qualifier after shooting 69-67 in qualifying. In his first 5 matches, Zellmer never trailed in any match, and was only taken beyond the 14th hole once, in the quarterfinals, where he defeated Long Beach State's Raymond Ho 2 and 1.

In May, Bob Valerio of Hawthorne won his record third Long Beach Senior Championship. The Senior Championship was contested over all three Long Beach courses and Valerio shot a 1-over par total of 217.

Along with trophies and gift certificates, both Zellmer and Valerio will receive exemptions into the Long Beach Open. Results, general information and Entry Forms for all of the events that comprise the award winning Long Beach Golf Festival can be found at www.lbgolffestival.com.
