Local Boy Wins!!

Merrick3 200x400pxLong Beach native and Wilson High grad John Merrick won his first PGA Tour Event on February 17th, when he defeated Charlie Beljan in a two-hole play-off at the Northern Trust Open.

Merrick, who still lives in Long Beach, is the first ever LA Open winner to be born in LA County.

Currently in his 7th year on the PGA Tour, Merrick's previous best finish was 2nd in the 2009 Bob Hope Desert Classic and last year's Fed Ex St. Jude Classic. He had 13 top 10 career finishes prior to his victory. With his win, Merrick vaulted to 2nd place on the 2013 Money List, and 4th place on this year's Fed Ex Cup point list. The win gives him a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour and ensures a return trip to the Masters this April.
