Tyrone Van Aswegen wins the $160,000 Long Beach Open

Tyrone_Van_Aswegen_400x200South African native Tyrone Van Aswegen crushed the record book in winning the 19th Annual Long Beach Open, with a 25-under par total of 263, breaking the old scoring record by 5 shots.


Tyrone started the tournament with a course record 62 at Skylinks and cruised the rest of the way.

The Long Beach Open was the final event in the Long Beach Golf Festival, a nationally recognized collection of 13 tournaments for all levels of golfers: juniors, men and women amateurs, seniors and professionals. More than 1,500 golfers from all over the United States, completed over 3,200 rounds of golf on the various City of Long Beach golf courses in this year’s Festival.  Also, over 100 volunteers donated over 3,000 hours to help make the events smooth and special for the competitors.

As part of the Golf Festival, American Golf Corporation made $8,500 in charitable donations to The Long Beach Assistance League, the 49er Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams at Long Beach State, and Partners of Parks, the charitable organization that supports parks and recreation programs in Long Beach.
