At a celebratory “Kickoff Ceremony” on Saturday, March 12, the City of Long Beach began a 6-month trial of FootGolf at Recreation South GC, commonly referred to as “Little Rec”. Combining golf and soccer, FootGolf players kick a #5 soccer ball from a tee box into a 2 ½ foot hole that generally follows the regular course layout, but does avoid bunkers and golf putting greens. During the trial, FootGolf reservations or games may be reserved or by “walk up” every day of the week after noon. For information, contact the Little Rec Golf Shop at (562) 438-4012. Soccer balls may be rented, and tennis shoes or Indoor Soccer Shoes must be worn for FootGolf.
The Kickoff crowd is given instructions by General manager Tony Zeimet
LBTV was onsite to cover the Kickoff Event for local Channel 3 (Channel 21 on Verizon)
3rd District Councilwoman Suzie Price, Interim Director of Parks, Recreation and Marine Steve Scott and American FootGolf League President Roberto Balestrini cut the official ribbon before the first kick.
Following FootGolf tradition, there was a Champagne Toast to the tune of “Ole! Ole! Ole! Ole! – FootGolf! FootGolf!”
